Fun at the Pickering 40s Revival

Had a fantastic retro weekend at Pickering with a couple of friends, looking forward to next years already.

In the tilt hat I finally finished on the friday night before Pickering, it was a close one, flowers ribbons and bows to match my blouse from nudeedudee at etsy.

Feeling very patrotic on the Sunday.
We had a very lesuirely journey that day, via the Whitby to Pickering steam train and by which we where able to spend some time at 'Le Visham' the Nasi occupied and remote 'french' hamlet.

Even being 2011 its still a bit chilling to see this menacing duo in full nazi army regalia as your leaving your carriage for the cosy rural station platform, I can say that we didn't spend an awful lot of time at Le Visham and jumped back onto the train for Pickering.

My train ticket and compact.

It was fabulous to see so many of the visitors dressed up in full 40s civilian and forces clothing, this was our second time at the North Yorkshire 40s revival weekend and we always so pleased to see all the enthusiasts dressed to the nines, it was all very elegant and stylish. However I did get a few curious looks from the people in the patrol station the morning we arrived, however that was Whitby and they should be used to it by now!

There was only problem with this 40s weekend and that is it ended to soon.

God Bless Etsy!

You can find a whole host of amazing things on Etsy (and I spend far to much time browsing through the vintage clothing section) but I suggest you check out these amazing stamps by ttyr. Recently I've had some made in my logo and I definitely suggest that you take a look at the bespoke stamps, that can be made in an amazing variety of quirky and cute designs, I think they make a fab personalised touch to courtesy cards etc.

The 1940's are coming to Pickering

This coming weekend I'll be travelling to Whitby and Pickering with friends to enjoy the celebration of everything 1940s at this once a year, week long event. Hopeful we'll be catching the steam train to take us to Pickering where we can join in at a tea dance.

So plenty of dressing up in vintage fashion and pin curls, can't wait.

Pictures next week.

35 Inspiring Illustrations

Popped in to the Myles Meehan Gallery, Darlington Arts Centre after work to check out the new exhibition of contemporary illutration, Images 35: Best of British Illustration. found some fabulous work that appealed to my sense of style. I particulary liked the gothic illustration by Petra Kneile's Her Face was a painted Mask of Beauty.

Also the work of Gail Armstrong (below) is amazingly detailed and beautifully thoughtful image crafted in paper, a paper sculpture.

Its great to see this diverse collection of work on exhibition in Darlington.

And one more for this evening

Hello....

So finally i've created my blog, something I thought i'd never get round to doing. Im using this space to show my fine art practice along with some of the various things I find interesting and that inspire my art practice. Im currently busy making work crafted from card and glitter, a bit of excentric decoupage. I've been obsessed by embellisment which will become more apparent as I add more images of my work.

Hope you can take time to check out my Esty page-  http://www.etsy.com/people/LauraBetty?ref=si_pr
